Australian Kelp Products was formed in 2003 to capitalise on the vast seaweed resource that is washed up upon the Limestone Coast. To cater for the expanding market for our products we have recently moved to a large production facility at the Snuggery Industrial Park which is approximately 10 kilometres east of Millicent, South Australia.

We harvest our seaweeds to ensure our range of products delivers the benefits of the nutrient rich sea plants. These benefits are derived from the numerous minerals, vitamins and growth hormones that are present in natures fast growing undersea plants. Due to the enormous biodiversity of this region, our seaweed harvest contains a variety of species which contribute to making an excellent cocktail of nutrient rich products.

We value the resource, beach environment and the pristine region and are guided by our obligations to harvest our seaweeds sustainably.

Our Mission is…

To make commercially available a range of high quality products from the seaweed resource that deliver benefits to plants and animals for which seaweed is renowned whilst extracting the resource in a sustainable manner.

Seaweed Journey

Seaweeds are algae, simple plants without roots, stems or leaves. The majority of seaweeds occur sub tidally on submerged rock platforms.

Seaweeds are grouped into three colour divisions; red, brown and green.  Within each of these divisions are numerous families.

Our coastline is particularly rich in red species these are smaller more delicate seaweeds.  The brown species are the most conspicuous due to their larger size.  There are fewer species of green and these are smaller in size.

Seaweeds generally are cast  onto shore after a storm.  During a storm the swirling and surging sea rips the seaweeds from underwater rocks and pools tossing the plants into the powerful swells of the ocean which carry the seaweed to shore.
